Editing for the Web, Susan Eder

Edmonton-based soldier injured in Afghanistan dies in city hospital
by Kathleen Harris, Edmonton Sun, March 22, 2010

This article is rather long and it is not divided into "chunks" for easy reading. Breaking the text into segments with the use of bold sub-headlines, bullets and lists would make this story easier to pull information from. As it is the information is not short and to the point, which makes the reader have to work harder for understanding. Even adding different coloured type helps to divide the text up and helps to emphasise words and phrases.

This article looks like it is the same as the printed version of the story. The headline and the lead provide complete information on what the story is about. The paragraphs contain one subject; however, some of them are long. This makes it harder to scan the article.

The only links on this page direct you to other news stories. Guess if you want to find out more information you will just have to Google it yourself. Images enhance the meaning of the text, are small in size and download quickly.

Mistakes are called "typos" and a link is provided to report any grammar mistakes that are found.

Quotes are sometimes pulled from the text and set in a different size or colour. An example of a quote that could have been set aside in this story is as follow

"He was stable enough to transport at the time" said Fraser Logan"

All in all this article is long and boring for the web even though in print the article works just fine.
