Editing for the Web, Nancy Gordy

An article by Stephane Massinon on the Edmonton Journal's website demonstrates good editing for the web. This is done in many ways.

The article is assisted by four photos of the Calgary condo up in flames, as well as two videos of the fire occuring as well. The photos and video enhance the meaning of the article by providing readers with the opportunity to see the damage that has been done and the power of the fire. There are also two links to related articles on the condo fire found on the right side of the article.

Within the article itself, paragraphs are kept very short and to the point. Quotes are weaved into the story nicely, and at the end it is stated that there will be more on the story shortly as more information is discovered.

The few negatives about the web presentation of this story is that the headline is quite long for an online story, and there are no key ideas highlighted by bullets/lists. It is a very short article however, so it would be tough to incorporate sub heads, bullets or lists, and any pull out quotes. Overall, the presentation of this article is done well for the web.
